Dealing with failure

One of the biggest problems for aspiring and even professional hypnotists is the fear of failure. It even stops many from starting hypnotizing after training. Of course, we want to support you so that you don’t belong to this marginalized group. Here you will find some tips and instructions to help you become confident in dealing with failure and prevent it from happening in the first place.

Identify the critical moments and plan solutions in advance
Imagine exits and/or possible evasive maneuvers as an anti-failure option for each critical moment.
.
When an error occurs:

  • Determine, confirm, continue (pacing and leading)
  • No internal panic reaction
  • Integrate and continue what has been established
  • Turn to a lighter phenomenon

In practice:

Fingers that don’t get any closer
(suggestibility test)

“… and as you look at these fingers, you can feel the tendency of these fingers to want to get closer.
You can experience it on another level, in your head, perhaps noticing your breathing…”

Go back to the previous phenomenon, with possible outcome

… and therefore you can …

Use a metaphor
(Resistance to change)

“Stop…
You are the one who decides. This shows that you’re not ready at the moment. There’s no point pretending, you’ve made the decision and it’s perfectly fine. Maybe it’s not the right time for you.”

Make an expert diagnosis of failure

That’s very interesting… some do, some don’t…
In this moment you have a choice…and it shows again that you have the power of choice and control.”

Lead the action

“As your hand goes down now…you close your eyes!”
“And let your hand go down NOW!” (command)

Draw attention to elements that are predictable

“… and now you can perceive the support of your arm on the chair.”
” You hear sounds around you…
(and then continue with a non-consensual reality)
take note, realize… what you think, feel, live…
Thought, feeling, emotion… in your head, in your body…

Ambiguous language with a non-logical link

“You sit in your chair, listen to the sounds around you, and notice how your hand floats in this space and time.”

Unclear, ambiguous words

… that has a tendency to…
… these are the possibilities we allow ourselves…

Words that fail

try…
try…
…and make sure that you do not…
… the more you try, the less you will succeed!

Shortcuts

and, because, while, instead …

Fill “holes”
(ask questions)

What is happening?
What do you feel?
What’s going on in your mind right now?

Choice

“I’m wondering which of your fingers will move first.”
“Which of your two feet are you standing on most firmly right now?”
“You can decide whether you want to close your eyes now or in a few seconds.”

Whatever happens, stay an expert at what you do.

The big advantage you have over your counterpart:

  • you don’t have to prove anything to anyone
  • Your counterpart is responsible for your success
  • you know what’s coming next
  • nothing bad can happen
  • you don’t have to justify the process

Hand stuck to the table

In the following video you can see how suggestions work, even without induction. This is a type of waking hypnosis in which the subject follows the hypnotist’s instructions exactly. You can see how the above options are used to avoid possible failure.
You can also use the following application very well as a suggestibility test and convincer.
